Ruben Oliven is a Professor of Anthropology at the Federal University of Rio Grande Do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He is the past president of the Brazilian Anthropological Association and of the Brazilian Association for Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences. He is currently a Fulbright Distinguished Visiting Professor at Emory University.
