Columbia-American Museum of Natural History Alliance
Several curators from the American Museum of Natural History teach courses on an annual basis in Columbia's Department of Anthropology. The Department’s students have access to the museum's research facilities, library, archives, laboratories, and collections. For students interested in pursuing a degree in museum anthropology, a Master of Arts in Museum Anthropology is available.
This formal alliance between the Museum and Columbia is the continuation of a long-standing tradition of cooperation begun by Franz Boas, Margaret Mead, and Harry Shapiro, all of whom were curators at the Museum and professors in Columbia's Department of Anthropology.
