Lecture delivered by Ileana Selejan. This is an empirical anthropological investigation of a hypothesis about the relationship between photographic self-representation and different societies’ understanding of what is politically possible.

Ileana Selejan is research associate in the Department of Anthropology at University College London. Headed by Christopher Pinney she is working on the project “Citizens of Photography: The Camera and the Political Imagination.” This is an empirical anthropological investigation of a hypothesis about the relationship between photographic self-representation and different societies’ understanding of what is politically possible. The project involves researchers working in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Greece, Nigeria and Selejan’s research in Nicaragua.
