Xinyi Hu is working on the concept of insurance in mainland China and compare it with that in US. She considers the interpretation and practices of insurance products in the context of cultural resistance and reciprocal interpersonal obligations as well as their effects. She seeks to understand the discrepancy between consciousness of insurance and original expectation of risk and risk management. Her master thesis thus concerns the powerful signs of insurance and risk in colonizing the future, disposing personhood in the diffusion of modernism and capitalism.
